Effect of dulaglutide injection on weight beyond glycemic control: real-world observational study

Dulaglutide is an effective Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor Agonist (RA) in optimizing weight and glycemic control obese patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The study's objective was the real-world evaluation of metabolic effect on T2DM from Southern Iraq. This study a six-month observational prospective longitudinal 185 individuals T2DM. They were initiated as add-on drug Oral Antidiabetic (OAD) or insulin therapy. General characteristics patients, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), blood glucose, lipid profile, side effects profile evaluated at enrollment end study. enrolled T2DM, had duration (2 -14 years) initial HbA1c range (6 - 19.5%), different treatment modalities, including insulin, OADs, both. showed significant reduction weight, HbA1c, serum cholesterol, minimal hypoglycemic events 5% (n=9). gastrointestinal mild to moderate self-limited >96% (n=178), while they so severe 4% (n=7) caused discontinuation Dulaglutide. Therefore, regimen either stopped (n=28), changed (n=7), reduced No change oral medications performed 141 patients. In conclusion, 1.5 mg administered once week significantly Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose (SMBG), cholesterol levels risk.
